There is a new book about the history of the Viking Age forthcoming entitled The Children of Ash and Elm. The author is Neil Price, and that is enough reason for me to want to get it, for he is a highly respected scholar.
When I checked the site of a local bookstore for availability a sentence screamed out at me in bold: “The definitive history of the Vikings”. Deary me, doesn’t that make your toes curl. So much for ridiculous marketing notions. The subtitle says it all, this is ‘A History of the Vikings’ and not ‘The History of the Vikings’. Enough said.
