876 – Death of Louis the German

Louis was a son of Louis the Pious, thus a grandson of Charlemagne. He would be the first king of East Francia and spent most of his life fighting either or both his brothers, Lothair and Charles the Bald. He was ill in 869 already, but recovered. He succumbed seven years later to a new illness in Frankfurt
