973 – Birth of Henry II of Germany

Born as the son of the duke of Bavaria, Henry gets elected as king of Germany upon Otto III’s death. Initiates wars against Polish, Italian and Flemish rulers and eventually is crowned Holy Roman Emperor. Without an heir to succeed him, the Ottonian dynasty ends with Henry.
