973 – Death of Otto I of Germany

Otto I died when he was about sixty years old. He had a lifetime behind him of consolidating and expanding his East Frankish kingdom. He quelled rebellions by close family members, he gained the Italian kingdom, and the Holy Roman Empire. His legacy was secured with the smooth succession of his son, Otto II. He is interred in the cathedral at Magdeburg.
