900 – Coronation of Edward the Elder

Edward was the son of Alfred the Great started off by ruling the kingdom of Wessex and through victories over the Vikings, extend his kingdom over most of England. He was crowned after defeating his cousin Aethelwold at Badbury Rings.

1042 – Death of Harthacnut

The son of Cnut the Great and Emma of Normandy led a turbulent life. Though he lost the kingdom of Norway, he still reigned over Denmark and England at the end of his life. Harthacnut apparently died during a wedding banquet. He was buried in Winchester.
